A saw a program on TV... The Topp Twins doing a series
on various different food sources round New Zealand.
One was about the pies at the Hororata Pub... Made by 'The Hunk'.
So off I went to find them... Here is what looks like the
Hororata Pub... A beautiful old country building...
But no! Not the pub as the notice told us... Here's why...
We were definitely in Hororata Rd...
The only other eating place in this 'blink and you miss it'
small town, was The Hororata Cafe over the road...
So off I went to investigate...
And here's the notice... 'Hunky Butchers Pie'.
It was a freezing day but the welcome and atmosphere
inside was warm. We ordered our pies... And fries to share...
I had steak and cheese... Absolutely melt in the
mouth... Full of delicious tender pieces of steak
in the lightest flaky pastry...
Enjoyed with a large brown bottle of 'Speights'
I haven't seen big brown beer bottles for years... And they
were never my favourite... But it's a very nice beer...
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch... Sitting inside
in a sunny corner.
A few hardy souls outside... But it needs to be
summer time and a lot warmer for me.
If you're in the Canterbury/Christchurch area do make
a visit... They are well labeled 'The Best Pies'.
